Episode 86: Taonga Pūoro with Kiri McGuire of Kākano Ōpūnake

Recuperating from an accident led Kiri McGuire (Ngāti Pāhauwera) to get into glass making. And then, finding the perfect building for a glass studio at Napier Street in Ōpunakē led her to found the gallery, Kākano. It’s become a place people can go to learn about, learn to play and buy Taonga Pūoro (traditional Māori musical instruments) made by Kiri and some of Aotearoa’s best makers, and learn raranga (weaving) from local experts.
